Overview

5-Day South Florida National Parks Eco-Adventure

Explore all four of South Florida's iconic National Parks: Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, Dry Tortugas National Park, and Big Cypress National Preserve. Following an exclusively curated itinerary, this bucket list adventure will have you venturing deep into these remote regions. On this journey, you will also get to experience a few incredible state parks; as well as to venture out into the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean by boat, and across the 47 bridges spanning the Florida Keys by touring vehicle. With your expert naturalist or biologist guide, you'll become immersed in the incredible biodiversity of these natural wonders. This tour solves all of the logistical details of connecting and encompassing all of these regions in one amazing trip. Please contact us if you'd like to inquire about a private version of this tour.

Please note: The itinerary featured below is for the December, April, and May tours. It is virtually the same for the February, March, and April tours too. However, Day 1 and Day 2 are reversed in order for the January, February, and March tours. Despite this switch of Day 1 and Day 2, all activities, details, and inclusions are the same for all tours, no matter in which month they occur. (Dec., Apr., and May: The only exception is that the boat trip from Flamingo in Everglades National Park across the Florida Bay to Islamorada in the Florida Keys for these months... In Jan., Feb., and Mar.: is replaced by the ferry boat trip from Marco Island to Key West instead). Please let us know if you have any questions about these itinerary differences.

Why Choose This Adventure?

  • Visit 3 National Parks and 1 National Preserve in one in-depth, comprehensive, and fascinating trip (Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, Dry Tortugas National Park, and Big Cypress National Preserve).
  • Venture by boat or ferry from mainland Florida to the Florida Keys. Fly by seaplane from Key West to the Dry Tortugas. And travel in a new or like new sprinter style vehicle with large touring windows all through the ecosystems of the Everglades, the islands of the Keys, and more!
  • Experience all of the ecology and incredible biodiversity of each region, including the beautiful marine life of the Dry Tortugas and all 9 ecosystems of the real Everglades. Become immersed in the incredible culture and history of each park too.
  • In this small group format, become immersed in the ongoing adventure of the trip, amidst very comfortable accommodations and travel. Appreciate the highly personalized approach of your expert naturalist guide; while enjoying the carefully curated itinerary, filled with authentic experiences, local knowledge, and rare surprises. Take notice of our relationships with the local Indian tribe, the multi-generational families who inhabit the Everglades, and other important partnerships that make this tour truly one-of-a-kind.

Boat Trip Across the Florida Bay and Time to Explore Key West

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Private boat trip from Flamingo in Everglades National Park, across the Florida Bay, to Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Witness the raw, mysterious beauty of the Florida Bay, amidst its fragile mosaic of seagrass, hard bottoms, mudflats, and mangroves. Become mesmerized by light, which quickly changes from emerald green, to turquoise, to a silty darker blue; across this critical marine nursery for the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. We will stop at an island to explore on the way. And while en route, we will look out for dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, and an incredible array of bird species like flamingos, roseate spoonbills, osprey, bald eagles, white pelicans, all kinds of herons, and more! (For December, April, and May tours.)
  • Travel via the spacious Key West Express from Marco Island to Key West, the southernmost point in the continental United States. Sit back and relax in comfort aboard this jet powered catamaran, and breathe in the fresh ocean air. Take in the incredible turquoise waters, across the span of the Gulf of Mexico from the Florida mainland to the iconic, Key West. Enjoy a tropical rum drink, other alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage, and snacks, while spotting birds and marinelife along the way! (For January, February, and March tours.)
  • Breakfast is included, before either boat trip.
  • Scenic, narrated driving tour through the lower Florida Keys, across numerous long bridges spanning the open ocean (on Dec., Apr., and May tours).

Seaplane and Tour of Dry Tortugas National Park and Key West

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Experience the incredible ocean views while on a 45-minute seaplane trip approaching the Dry Tortugas and Dry Tortugas National Park; with the chance from the air to see dolphins, sea turtles, pilot whales, and more! On this VIP trip, we will arrive to Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas early, before other visitors get there, to become immersed in the serenity of this one-of-a-kind National Park.
  • Intriguing, guided walking history tour of Fort Jefferson, led by our expert guide. Become enthralled with the interesting stories. Learn that this fort was built to protect and refortify ships in one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world in the mid-19th Century. Take in the mesmerizing ocean vistas atop this absolutely amazing 16-acre hexagonal fort built right into the ocean! With approximately 16 million bricks, it is the largest brick structure in the Western Hemisphere.
  • Snorkel with our naturalist, biologist, or marine biologist guide from the beach. This spectacular snorkel is safe, and in shallow water near the coast. There is the chance to see sea turtles, rays, nurse sharks, moray eels, squid, a whole host of tropical fish, and more. The tropical fish, such as various kinds of parrotfish, snappers, trumpetfish, angel fish, and a lot more, can be of quite a large size due to the close proximity of the Dry Tortugas to the Florida Straits. All snorkel gear, safety gear like lifejackets and safety swim life ring, reef safe sunscreen, and towels are provided; as well as marine life, fish, and bird identification guide books and cards. Wild Lime dry bags are provided for each guest, and are to be kept as a souvenir.
  • With our naturalist guide, walk along a connecting sandbar out to Bush Key to witness the special, thriving sea bird sanctuary located there (only available for the Dec., Jan., and Feb. Tours, due to the nesting seasons for the sooty terns and brown noddies).
  • On your own, explore the island, continue snorkeling, or relax at the sandy white beach. Sit back, breathe in the ocean air, and become enthralled with one of the prettiest ocean sea views in the world. The water is so incredibly blue due to the nearby Florida Current and Florida Loop Current.
  • Hop on the 45-minute seaplane trip back to Key West and once again search for all of the marine life down below and take wonder of the amazing panoramic views; and the feel the abiding memories you've created through this bucket list adventure.
  • Head back to the hotel for a freshen-up or time to take a dip in the hotel pool. Then, head to a wonderful lunch in Old Town Key West.
  • With our experienced guide, tour the inspirational African Slave Cemetery, and the Key West Garden Club, located at the West Martello Tower. This is the opportunity to view this garden's wonderful and rare collection of tropical trees, plants, flowers, orchids, bromeliads, and more; flora species that other than in the Keys grow nowhere else in North American. After these tours, take a walk with us past the moving AIDS Memorial at Higgs Beach out onto the stone pier for a look back at this island of Key West, originally called Cayo Hueso, or "Bone Island."
  • The opportunity to continue exploring and touring the island on your own. Optional: Stop by later for a quick stop at a local bar - for free appetizers and a free drink, and to listen to a brief talk given by our interesting local guest speaker.

Weather, Safety, and Flexibility

Many of the incredible experiences on this adventure — including boat excursions, snorkeling, and the seaplane flight to Dry Tortugas — are weather dependent. While we always do our best to deliver the full itinerary as planned, safety is our top priority, and certain activities may be adjusted, postponed, or canceled in the event of unsafe conditions. Weather is beyond our control, but rest assured: if any part of the tour is affected, we will do everything possible to substitute it with another high-quality, meaningful experience that reflects the spirit of the trip.

FAQ

What should I bring?

We provide a lot of things, so you don't really have to bring much.
Some people bring a hat or sunglasses.

How much is a normal tip for the air boat captain guide?

$5 per person for a shared tour. A private tour might be more like $15 to $20 per person.

How much is a typical tip for a Wild Lime guide?

Whatever you think sounds reasonable. Some guests tip $10 to $20 per person. Tipping is customary and much appreciated. We can provide your guide's Venmo or Zelle handle upon request. Thanks for considering!

Can I get a discount if I reserved through a third-party seller?

No. Unfortunately, we can only provide the direct booking discount and the meet-up discount for direct bookings.

Can we bring a lunch?

Yes, you can. We have a cooler you can put it in if you want. Some people bring a sandwich or something like that on occasion. Not everyone does though, because this tour wraps up around lunch time.

Is it a hard walk?

No, it's a very easy walk, and we take our time. We take our time because there is usually a lot of wildlife and we just want people to enjoy it! We have had all ages on this tour from young kids to people in their 80s. The walk is about 2.5 miles round-trip.

Can you guarantee seeing alligators and other wildlife?

No. That is the beauty of it, because it's all in the wild! It is very rare though (maybe once a year) that we would not see at least a few alligators on the walk. And often, we see many alligators, and a lot of other wildlife too! We know where a lot of the wildlife is, but there are always a few surprises! One never knows what they'll see in the Everglades!

Are there mosquitoes?

Surprisingly, many parts of the year there are not usually too many mosquitoes, if any. There can be mosquitoes though in the summer to early fall months, some years more than others. We have mosquito repellent if you need some.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

We recommend just being comfortable. Comfortable walking shoes are a must. Sneakers, trainers, and even sandles are fine; as long as it is comfortable to walk in. You don't need hiking boots. There is one part of the walk though that is a bit off trail. You can skip this part if you want. But if going on this part with our guide, we don't recommend brand new shoes. They might get some dirt or bit of a mud on them.

What kind of clothes should I wear?

From April through early November, it can get pretty hot out there! So, just dress comfortably. Shorts and a T-shirt are fine. In the winter it can be warm too, but it can also get chilly sometimes, and we will be out on a boat for at least an hour. So, if it is a chilly day, bring a sweater or light jacket.

What is the minimum age requirement?

5 years old for shared tours but no minimum for private tours.
