About Us

Transportation available from hotels and other locations in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

People ask us, “How did you come up with your company name Wild Lime Adventures?”

Here’s the story:

Because our tours focus on exploring the Florida that is off the beaten path from other typical Floridian tourist destinations, we wanted a representative species that would be emblematic of “Old Florida”. The wild lime tree (Zanthoxylum fagara) is a small, pretty tree native to South Florida and other parts of the Caribbean.

The wild lime tree grows as an understory tree in hammocks and coastal upland plant communities and tends to be found mainly on the leeward side of the coastal dune areas of South Florida.  The tree has some interesting ethnobotany: The Seminole Indians used the wood to make bows and arrows and it is prized for furniture making.

The leaves and bark can be crushed to make a pungent condiment. The fruit is edible (but requires great effort to collect since the fruit is quite tiny) and the fruit can be used as a numbing agent.

The aromatic flowers and fruits attract bees and other pollinators but the best visitor to the wild lime tree is the giant swallowtail (Papillo cresphontes) butterfly. The giant swallowtail is the largest butterfly in North America and it is quite striking!

The giant swallowtail females lay their eggs on the newly formed leaves which serve as food for the emerging caterpillars.

This complex interdependence between the indigenous flora and fauna inspired our company name and logo.

We encourage you to come along with us as we “Find the Real Florida”

OUR PASSION: TO PRESERVE THE PLANET ONE ADVENTURE-TOUR AT A TIME!  We invite you to join us on one of our tours – to share in our passion – and to find the REAL Florida.

WHAT WE DO: Wild Lime Adventures is an eco-tour and cultural tour company, providing round-trip day-tours and multi-day tours from anywhere in South Florida to places like the Florida Keys, Everglades National Park, and Big Cypress National Preserve - and other locations in South Florida.

OUR MISSION: We take our guests beyond the regular touristic type activities – so they learn about the natural ecology of the places they visit and have fun while becoming immersed in authentic nature and cultural adventures. Our guests bond with family and friends through each adventure and create memories that will last a lifetime. These personalized experiences are led by experienced naturalists, marine biologists, and local expert guides.

We are pleased to donate a small portion from each paid tour to this vital organization. Visit https://www.soflomoraes.com for more information.

    Meet the Team

Stacy – BIOLOGIST AND INTERPRETIVE GUIDE

Stacy was born and raised in Southeastern Ohio, where she spent a lot of her time exploring nearby woods and streams. Stacy received a B.S. in Biology from Marietta College, and worked as a naturalist for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. She always dreamed of being a mermaid so she moved to Florida to pursue her passion – marine biology. She has a double M.S. degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management. Her doctoral degree focused on getting people out in nature and curing what Richard Louv coined “nature deficit disorder.” She is a certified Florida Master Naturalist and Florida Master Naturalist Instructor. She has led hundreds of tours to the Everglades, Florida Keys and state parks. Stacy is most at peace alone in nature or snorkeling and scuba diving with her family. Stacy agrees with H.J. Brown Jr.: That “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than the ones you did do.”

Ben – DIRECTOR OF TOURS AND INTERPRETIVE GUIDE

Ben is a South Florida native. Growing up, he spent a good amount of time outdoors: enjoying the beach and playing sports. However, it wasn’t until he began scuba diving in his twenties that he developed a passion for ocean ecology and nature. As a child, Ben dreamed of playing in the NBA, but when that never came close to materializing, he worked as a college professor instead. Ben holds a doctorate degree in Education Leadership; as well as a B.A. from Florida Atlantic University and an M.A. from Florida International University. He has led hundreds of tours to the Everglades, the Florida Keys, and other places of interest. He loves spending time with his wife and two kids; and greatly enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, and drinking Flor de Cana rum. Ben is a scholar of the writer Joseph Conrad; and he lives by the motto: “When you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing,” by Dr. Seuss.

    Lindsay – Biologist Guide

Lindsay is a South Florida Native. She grew up near the water, and so began her lifelong passion for dolphins. Her love of dolphins continues today, to the point where she sometimes feels they are communicating with her. Lindsay earned a B.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida, and soon thereafter began her career as a marine mammal intern at Miami Seaquarium. She then worked in Maine for three summers as a guide on lobster fishing, seal watching, and whale watching tours. But when Maine finally proved too cold for her Florida blood, she worked on a ferry to Key West instead. She then worked as an in-the-water, swim-with-the-manatees guide, and as a wild scallop catching guide in Crystal River. She has enjoyed pursuing her Dive Master certification and leading hundreds of trips through the Everglades and Florida Keys. Lindsay loves exploration, and so lives by the words of J.R.R. Tolkien: that “not all those who wander are lost.”

    Ryan – NATURALIST GUIDE

Ryan was born and raised in Ft Lauderdale. He was in the Florida Singing Sons Boychoir throughout his school years which is where he gained a love for music and travel. Ryan has a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from Florida State University where he also marched with the Marching Chiefs at every Seminole football game and was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity. Ryan has worked as an elementary science coach, a snorkeling and kayaking guide in the U.S. Virgin Islands and for the past 7 summers as a tour guide on the trains in Alaska where he fell in love with sharing the beauty of our National Parks with visitors. Ryan’s love for travel has taken him to visit 38 states and 25 countries. Ryan agrees with Enos Mills that “Within National Parks is room — glorious room — room in which to find ourselves, in which to think and hope, to dream and plan, to rest and resolve.”

    Mike – NATURALIST GUIDE

Mike is a 3rd generation Florida native. He grew up between the waters of the Atlantic off Palm Beach and those of the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida Keys. He earned his bachelors degree at of the University of Central Florida. His passion for the outdoors is driven by his father and grandfather. His father was an avid boater and his grandfather built his business along the banks of the Miami River over 75 years ago. Mike’s love and respect of the outdoors runs deep in his veins, as he loves to converse in the lore of old Florida. As a kid he wanted to run marathons and to play in the NFL, but the heat of South Florida drove him more and more to the water. He has chartered countless offshore and backcountry boating and diving adventures, and he has led hundreds of groups on excursions through the Everglades. His love of the water and wildlife is evident through his hobbies of diving, kayaking, and hiking through the Glades. Mike truly lives by the lyrics of Jimmy Buffett – that “As the son of the son of a sailor, I went out on the sea for adventure”

    Tammy – NATURALIST GUIDE

Tammy is a true Floridian; she grew up on edge of the Florida Everglades; where there were still just dirt roads and horse country. She learned early on that as the only girl in a family and 4 brothers, if she wanted to go with the family, she had better love to explore the Everglades, handle a boat out in the sometimes rough waters of the Atlantic Ocean, drive a swamp buggy, and captain an air boat. Tammy earned a B.A. from Florida Atlantic University. No matter if it is spending time with her daughter, boating, snorkeling, kayaking, or just enjoying the beach, Tammy simply loves the outdoors! And she lives by the words of her father, “that if you are going to go with the boys, you have to know how to do everything they can do.”

    Abigail – Biologist Guide

Abigail was born in Texas but she has also lived in Arizona, Maine, and Florida. She earned a B.S. in Marine Sciences from Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Since then, she has moved with the seasons: She has worked with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium rescue team, as a docent with Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, and as a whale researcher and guide for Allied Whale/Bar Harbor Whale Watch in Maine. Abigail is passionate about exploring the Everglades, researching various marine ecosystems, and promoting conservation and stewardship of all wild spaces! Abigail loves hiking and discovering the world around her. Her goal is to visit every United States National Park. So far, she is up to 22, and counting! She is motivated and inspired by the words of John Muir, that “The world’s big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark.”

    Elijah – Naturalist Guide

Elijah is a Florida native. He grew up hiking trails deep into the Everglades and snorkeling and scuba diving the reefs of the Florida Keys. He is currently pursuing three degrees at Florida State University. When he is not engaged in his studies, he loves sharing his vast knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Glades; and of the history of the Native peoples of the region. Elijah is a strong advocate for environmental and humanitarian causes. He is a vegan who loves cooking, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, exploring, reading, watching sports, and traveling. He has visited 15 countries thus far and sees travel as an incredible opportunity to learn from the perspectives of others. Elijah agrees with Mark Twain, that “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”

    Enoch – Naturalist Guide

Enoch is a South Florida Native. Growing up, he went on family camping trips in the Glades and spent a lot of time exploring Everglades National Park. After a time pursuing another career, Enoch decided to return to his passion by studying ecology and nature to become a Florida Master Naturalist. He has led hundreds of tours through the Everglades and other natural areas. On these trips, he loves to share his broad knowledge of geography, history, and the flora and fauna of the region. Even on his days off, you can often find him kayaking and going on wet walks in the Everglades with friends! When he’s not out in nature, Enoch enjoys creating and playing music, and being a member of a band. Enoch feels a connection between nature and music that is best explained by Plato: “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything!”

    Zac – Biologist Guide

Zac is from New York, where since he can remember has been driven by his love for wildlife. After graduating high school he decided that the wildlife of New York was not enough. He left for his first solo trip and spent several months exploring the natural parts of Australia. After Australia he returned to New York to pursue an undergraduate degree in Conservation Biology. While attending college, he participated in programs that brought him to Costa Rica and Madagascar. During college Zac discovered his love for guiding and began to focus on pursuing it as a career. Since graduating Zac continues to travel and learn about global biodiversity and ways to share his love for wildlife with others. When Zac isn’t guiding, he is either out photographing wildlife, kayaking, or practicing guitar! Zac loves this quote by Ken Kauffman; “On a day like this, I can’t imagine anything better that might happen in a person’s life than for them to start paying attention to birds—to become aware of this magical world that exists all around us, unnoticed by many but totally captivating for those who know its secrets.”
